Taking to the streets won't solve youth unemployment

By liesl on 12 September 2011

The Young Communist League (YCL) secretary, Buti Manamela, says taking to the streets to demand jobs will not solve youth unemployment. Manamela was responding to calls by African National Congress Youth League president Julius Malema that the youth will march to demand economic freedom.

The YCL say it is in favour of protests, but believes protests should be linked to initiatives that will create jobs. "Protests alone without action and initiatives from young people can never and will never liberate us economically, politically or in any other way," says Manamela.

He was speaking at uMlazi's King Zwelithini stadium during the commemorating of Ruth Firsts Annual games.

"Protests should be linked to initiatives that will create jobs."

Manamela also called on the youth to participate in different sporting codes. He says the usage of drugs by the youth remains a major concern. The recent crime statistics put uMlazi township as one of the areas where drug usage remains high.

Buti you just talking rubbish, you are trying to gain popularity of being a politician on the expense of Malema. Stop criticise each and evry Malema's move and initiate your own move.
