It is with the greatest of pleasure that I welcome you to the SABC Foundation’s 2nd SABC Disability Summit. In little more than a year, the SABC Disability Summit has entrenched itself as the leading event in the country’s disability space, and we look forward to more engaging and interactive information sessions in 2019.
The SABC Foundation’s Disability Summit is unique in that it brings together over 500 disabled learners, graduates, entrepreneurs and corporate South Africa to catalyze transformative change in the disability arena. Combining a Career Expo and dedicated Disability Conference, the event’s aim is threefold: to expose disabled learners to corporate career opportunities, to demystify disability in the South African workspace, and unpack the challenges faced by companies struggling to attract people with disabilities into their employ.
The Disability Summit has a proud eight year history as the Hope Mandeville Disability Careers Expo, which focused primarily on connecting disabled Grade 12 learners to employment opportunities. We are grateful to our sponsors and partners in particular Department of Education and Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP), as well as the disability practitioners, recruiters, training institutions, NGOs, industry suppliers and of course our students, all visiting us today.
For our organization in particular, the SABC Disability Summit is aligned with the SABC Foundation’s Disability 360 project, which aims to empower people with disabilities by providing ongoing information online and on the ground, in all 11 official languages.
Launched in 2016, the campaign gives maximum access to information for disabled people, as well as empowering them by providing relevant content such as information about job opportunities, training opportunities and the like.
We look forward to bringing you these and other exciting disability-focused initiatives in the future! Your presence and participation at this year’s Summit is highly appreciated.
